Paul Weller & The Rifles – AECC – 03/02/11
After the December gig being postponed due to snow Paul Weller finally made it to Aberdeen on Thursday 3rd February for the much awaited show.
The Rifles were once again his support band and did a fabulous set including Peace & Quiet, The Sweetest Thing and The Great Escape. Anyone who hasn’t seen this band really should look them up as they’re very good indeed.
They warmed the crowd up nicely before the Modfather himself came on stage to massive cheers and kicked things off with Push It Along. The band did a fantastic job and were full of energy and enthusiasm, delivering song after song, to the delight of the fans. The crowd really got going when he sang some of the old favourites such as Strange Town, Start, Broken Stones and Peacock Suit. One of the highlights of the night was One Bright Star, where the drummer, Steve, put his heart and soul into it and looked shattered by the end of the song! At one point, Paul came on stage with a lit cigarette and I thought things might go horribly wrong if they shut the gig down because of it but he quickly threw it down on the stage, much to my relief. The Changing Man was the last song of the evening and approx 3200 fans all left the AECC very happy and wondering when Paul would make his next visit to the Granite City. In his own words, ” it was well worth the wait”. Rock Chick.
