Hayseed Dixie & Tom Copson – The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen – 15/11/13
Ah, the return of the creators of rockgrass and “hailing from the Appalachian Mountains of the Southeastern United States”, yes, its the return of AC/DC and various other rockband impostors, Hayseed Dixie. They always seen to have Aberdeen on their tourlists and the people of our city do appreciate it by turning out in venue filling numbers, the must be in the region of 500 people here tonight. These are no scenesters either, there are many battle worn rockband t-shirts in the crowd from Hayseed designs from tours gone by to Motorhead, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Download (festival) and interestingly a Nick Cave one amongst many others.
Most people know the score with Hayseed, it’s a happy evening with lots of smiles, stories (mostly about drinking), and a jolly old hillbilly hoe down and tonight they play their Tribute to AC/DC album in its entirety with some requests at the end from the crowd. An if you want it and we know it we’ll play it kinda thing which even stretched to a Pink Floyd song that I didn’t know and the ‘Pistols Holidays in the Sun. And it’s not a complete Hayseed show without the legendary Poop in the Jar! Great fun as always with banjo and guitar duels a-plenty to entertain the bouncing crowd. Haste ye back boys!
Support on the night was Tom Copson, an acoustic guitar playing singer with a kind of one man band beside him. Check him out, the link to his website and blog and stuff is at the bottom of this review.
