Amy Sawers, Raw Stereo & Rambler – Dangerous Club, Peterhead 22/09/12
Having already missed a few gigs at Dangerous Club for one reason or another Still Burning decided he’d take in the next two in a row just to see how the venue compared to the usual FnS haunts in Aberdeen like the Moorings, Drummonds and Tunnels. Except that DC is in Peterhead, not Aberdeen. Och. Anyway, what did he discover? Dangerous Club in a once a month-ish event in the function hall of the Harbour Lights pub. There is ample street parking around the venue so that was a big plus, and the door tax is usually three British pounds for three acts, stunning value right there. From what I’ve seen there have been established acts on the bills so far but also younger up and coming artists and bands, long may that continue. I know it’s a bit of a distance from the city of Aberdeen but still worth the journey if the line-up suits. All in all a nice change and I hope the people of Peterhead continue to come out and support it. Another feature of DC is that the acts are scheduled to start at 9, 10 and 11pm. Good to have a structure to your evening rather than not having a clue when the next band is on.
So, the music. I thought the sound itself was pretty decent, both at the front, back and sides of the hall, absolutely no complaints there. And the acts for tonight were Rambler, a young acoustic female singer songwriter who I know Dangerous Club rates very highly and he knows a lot more about this kind of music than I do. Great wee set delivered with punchy vocals. Next up we have the young talent that is Raw Stereo a band with lots of promise but equally with a lot to learn. Enjoyable set, the highlight being an AC/DC medley, bit of a surprise there. Finally tonight we have Amy Sawers, one of Aberdeen’s own rock divas. Powerful and professional, and a set that was over too soon.
A great night, and the time just flew past for me and the people that were there seemed to enjoy it. SB.
