Coming next month is Episode #5, featuring Esperanza, Pariah Soul and today’s interviewees, The Capollos.
So, tell us a bit about yourselves… who you are, where you come from and how did you get your band name?
We are The Capollos which consists of 4 members: Kyle McDonald, Lloyd McDonald, Brett Thain and Greg Adams. We all come from Aberdeen. The name stems from Kyle and Lloyds great, great uncle Angelo Capollo.
How long have you been playing together?
We’ve been playing together for 2 years now.
Who are your main influences, obvious or otherwise?
Some of our influences are The Beatles, The Courteeners, Kasabian, Miles Kane, Oasis and many more.
What do you find the biggest challenge of being in a band? Or, what pisses you off the most?
A big challenge is trying to find a decent venue in Aberdeen. A lot of them have noise restraints in them. Unorganised gigs annoy us.
If you could make one thing easier for relatively small, yet progressive, bands what would it be?
It would be easier for small, progressive bands if today’s music scene was different and people supported local bands instead of going to see DJ’s that just play chart music.
Can you put into words just how damn happy you are to be playing Episode #5 on Saturday 12th March?
We are pleased to be selected for this gig and we look forward to playing it.
And for the rest of 2016, are there albums, EPs, festival appearances, world tours etc on the horizon?
We’re in the middle of recording our first EP. We are playing at a local festival ‘Enjoy Music’ at hazelhead park on 4th of June.
Any ambitions as a band, sensible or otherwise?
We’d like to make a name for ourselves not only in Aberdeen but in the UK.
Your favourite music festivals, to play or attend?
We’d love to play at T in the Park and we like going there.
If each band member was a film or tv show character who would they be?
Brett says he would like to be Thomas the Tank Engine.
Lloyd would choose Steve McDonald from Corrie.
Kyle picks Batman.
Greg picks The Joker.
Three bands you’d love to share a stage with?
Stereophonics, Kasabian and Noel Gallagher.
Vinyl, cd or download?
Vinyl & CD.
I think the current Scottish music scene is as strong as it has been for a few years, your thoughts on that?
We think the Scottish music is is definitely up and coming.
Which bands from your manor should we keeping an eye out for? And acts from outwith your region?
We’ve supported Kelvin who are popular.
Your five (or one from each band member maybe?) desert island tracks?
Brett – Don’t Look Back In Anger
Lloyd – Good Vibrations, Beach Boys
Kyle – Come Fly With Me, Frank Sinatra
Greg – Whatever, Oasis
And finally, your favourite flavour of crisps?
Kyle – tomato ketchup
Greg – Cool Doritos
Brett – salt n vinegar Pringles
Lloyd – Prawn Cocktail
