No5 Still Burning

The Soundtrack To Your Life – Still Burning – Flares n Seagulls Contributor

First Record You Can Remember – A Scottish Soldier – Andy Stewart
My old man was into his traditional Scottish Music and this record seems very clear in my head, even now.

Gilbert O'Sullivan - Why Oh Why Oh Why

First Record You Bought – Why, Oh Why, Oh Why – Gilbert O’Sullivan
Probably due to having less choice living in the sticks, but that’s what it was. And a lot of early seventies stuff I was never a fan of anyway.

Record That Reminds You Of School – My Way – Sid Vicious & Ace of Spades – Motorhead
These were the two records that the local disco played when it was the lads turn to take to the floor. And yeah, it got interesting at times when one was played after the other. Another Brick in the Wall by Pink Floyd’d be another shout.

The Damned - Love Song

Record You Fell In Love To – Love Song – The Damned
A love song with punk rock running through its veins? Hell yeah.

Heartbreak Tune – If I Never See You Again – Wet Wet Wet
Great lyrics.

Record That Evokes The Greatest Summer Of Your Life
Struggled with this one, but I’ll go for Two Tribes – Frankie Goes to Hollywood for now.

Record That Inspired You To Form A Band
The only time I’ve owned a guitar was when I was 16 and it was my pals that encouraged me to do so. Its not something I took to though and never played out with my pals garage. Probably just as well.
Record For A Night On The Tiles – Never Mind The Bollocks – Sex Pistols
Often imitated but never beaten. Attitude, power, rawness, cheap aftershave, what else does an impressionable bloke need?

Record Guaranteed To Get You Dancing – Teenage Kicks – The Undertones
*bounces out of his chair*

Karaoke Classic
Not a fan of karaoke but slightly tipsy gets me onto Rock n Roll Star and Teenage Kicks, a bit more I go into football song mode so songs get their words altered I’m afraid. I would however like to be able to get up and do a fucking great version of Caledonia. Just a pity I cannot sing. Any voice coaches who can make the vocal equivalent of a pigs ear into a silk purse please apply within.

Most Prized Record In Your Collection – New Rose – The Damned
It has one of my early punk singles, they meant so much to me at the time. Although I never really dressed like you’d perhaps imagine. I guess you had to be there. And yeah, I used to collect the imports, the picture discs and so on but they never gave you what your first meaningful records did. those records shaped what I have become in life. As the great man said “be what you aaa-are!

Man 2 Man - Male Stripper

Most Embarrassing Record In Your Collection – Male Stripper – Man 2 Man & Man Parrish
Fun when yer pissed I suppose, which I must have been when I bought it. Although I did go to Flicks (Brechin) to see him. Which reminds me, I have some Sabrina (grr) somewhere too.

Most Reviled Song Ever – Anything by Wham.

Record Guaranteed To Clear The Party
For me its anything that involves people standing in lines, making duck beak motions and so on. Just fuck off. (thanks) And the horrid (usually single) auntie that wants you to dance at weddings too. Leave-me-alone.

Last Record You Bought – Barry Myers presents Scratchy Sounds
(assuming a download counts!)

Most Surprising Discovery – Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra
Pick any of their albums and be amazed (if you like ska, that is).

The Undertones - All Wrapped Up

Favourite Record Cover – The Undertones – All Wrapped Up
If I had to choose one it’d probably be All Wrapped Up by The Undertones but I have to say that Crass Records pushed them all the way with their unique fold out poster size sleeves. How to make bombs, stop your electric meter and all sorts of informative anarchic goodness contained within the package, and all for 50p or whatever it was. Did you buy it because it was good, or only because it was 50p? Nobody really cared.

Record You Would Like Played At Your Funeral
The Northern Lights of Old Aberdeen, I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles and Flower of Scotland will all be played. Not very corny I know but that are the colours I’ve been loyal to in my life. For an encore we’ll throw in Teenage Kicks and Smash It Up (the long version).

What’s On The Hifi Right Now? Barry Myers presents Scratchy Sounds
As recommended by Roland Link on these very pages. Sometimes I LOVE FnS.
