DJs Bones and Money Interview

FnS resident decks enthusiast Jo-d-locks cornered Aberdeen based duo Bones and Money to find out a bit more about them.

Bones and Money

Welcome to fns Bonesandmoney! To start us off can you give a brief background on Bonesandmoney?

Bones & Money are a DJ duo from Aberdeen with residents nights in Snafu and Origin. When DJing we have a very open music policy, but specialise in playing out the very best in ghetto bass party music from all over the globe.

Tell me a little about your musical influences?

Club-wise, we’re both really into the UK scene at the moment. Everything from funky, grime, garage or dubstep.

What kind of equipment have/do you use, which do you prefer and why?

At the moment, we use Ableton Live with a midi controller. However, we’re planning our switch to 100% vinyl DJing. Keepin’ the heads happy!

Tell us the most amazing gig/set seen, where was it and why has it stood out for you?

Last summer, seeing Diplo DJ at the Maria club in Berlin. The mix of great venue, great DJ and great atmosphere made it an unforgettable night.

If you could have one DJ to play at your night, who would it be and why?

That’s a hard one. How about that DJ with no arms? Check him out on YouTube and you’ll see why.

Your ‘Dream set’ tell us the city, venue and why?

A grimey bassment rave anywhere in the world, packed out with a load of friends. Preferably near a nice beach or river for some after party relaxation.  Either that or the Westhill Gala…

Do you go to festivals, if so which ones are tempting you this year?

We’re set to be hitting up MELT festival in Berlin this summer and possibly Rockness and Viewpoint.

How are Bones & Money settling into Origin’s new home?

Origin’s new location has helped increase it’s profile a lot, nights are getting busier and busier. Being on Windmill Brae, the club now gets a lot more passing trade and attracts a larger variety of people.

How would you describe the people who come to your nights?

At our nights, you can find anyone from art school babes, hip hop heads, d’n'b fiends and the occasional old skool loyalist still willing to party after all these years. Anyone that wants to party, really!

What do you think of the nightlife in Aberdeen just now?

Aberdeen nightlife is very healthy at the moment. There are a lot of really good nights pushing some great music and a lot of people willing to dance to that music. Look out for: Hush Hush, DO IT!, Everything Else Sucks, Booya, Jungle Nation, Petrocollapse and Electrique Boutique.

Can you give some advice on budding bedroom DJ’s out there on how to get gigs?

Get your technique and style down, make a mix and get it out to as many people as possible.

Do you have any ambitions aside of DJing?

Hopefully joining next years cast of MTV hit, Jersey Shore.

Can you tell us the most exciting thing that has happened to you?

Being shown how to do the Démodé skank!

If you had the power to change anything about the music industry – what would it be?

To never hear Jo Wiley’s voice ever again?

What do you have planned for 2010?

As well as continuing our two residents nights (Spin The Bottle @ Snafu/Acid Thunder @ Origin) with some top secret special guests, we plan to scout out some local talent to keep the scene in Aberdeen as fresh as possible.

Where can we keep up to date with ‘What’s on’ for Bones & Money?

Checking out our myspace page or joining the Acid Thunder group page on Facebook would be your best bet.

If you had to tempt us readers to see you in 5 words, what would they be?

TONGUE TWISTING, WATER BLASTING ACTION!

For each interview I am asking for a question for the next interview, so this one is from DJ Lunik – What’s the best piece of advice you have been given?

Play what YOU want!

Please give me one question to ask in the next interview (keep it clean pls! ha ha)…

Do you believe in ghosts?

Your five desert island tracks?

1. Tempa T – Next Hype
2. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – American Girl
3. OMD – Enola Gay
4. Animal Collective – My Girls
5. Scotch – Disco Band

And finally, your favourite flavour of crisps?

Bones – Cheesy Wotsits
Money – Ready Salted Pombears

Thank you for your time Bones and Money and good luck with future gigs!   Jo-d-locks
